57 Thousand Fake Sites Appeared Every Week

sitePandaLabs found that at least there are approximately 57 thousand bogus site each week. These sites are fake sites from sites of large companies. The site's goal is to profit from Internet users who are stuck accessing these sites.

Company security solutions provider, PandaLabs indicates that the site often in the trace is a bank site, online auction sites and shopping sites.

"The problem is that when you visit a web site via email or search engine, may be difficult for users to know whether the site is genuine or not," said PandaLabs technical director Luis Corrons as reported by the Straits Times, Friday (09/10/2010).

He said that, although the search engine has made an effort to overcome the false websites by changing the indexing algorithm, so far they are not able to complement the many new fake sites created by hackers every day.

"The cyber criminals trying to go through search engines such as by placing a link in an email or post on social networking and making these fake sites listed in search results on search engines," said Corrons.

Bogus websites are usually designed to incorporate into the visitor's computer virus or fishing type people to valuable information such as account names or passwords. Online auction site eBay, and money transfer service Western Union is the main choice for hackers. Most of the site that is forged by cyber criminals.

In addition, Panda also noted that many sites are counterfeit Visa site, Amazon.com, PayPal, and HSBC.
