South New Zealand Destroyed by Earthquake

New Zealand EarthquakeAn earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale (SR) struck the southern region of New Zealand this morning. Many residents of the house were destroyed in this incident, but no reports of casualties in the disaster.

Panicked residents appear to meet the road after an earthquake struck the city of Christchurch. Most of the residents and even many who use clothing to bed, because the earthquake struck at dawn on their own local time. Thus reported the Associated Press, Saturday (04/09/2010).

There are no reports of casualties caused by this earthquake, but two people suffered serious injuries unknown. In addition several other residents who are still trapped under collapsed buildings caused by earthquakes such sweeping.

The local government has implemented emergency status around the location of earthquake, while the New Zealand military forces have been alerted today to help the evacuation and relief distribution to the earthquake victims.

Conditions around the city of Christchurch is still a mess because a lot of rubble that littered the house. Even city streets covered with rubble, while the traffic flow itself interrupted because of power supply drop that causes non-functioning traffic lights.

National Geological Agency of New Zealand (GNS Science) said the quake did not cause the tsunami. GNS itself could claim if the New Zealand earthquake of this magnitude 7.4 on the Richter scale, but eventually mengkoreksinya to 7.1 on the Richter scale.
